Private Label Sportswear: How to Launch Your Own Gym Wear Brand

Private label manufacturing lets you sell garments under your own brand without owning a factory. You bring the brand and the market; the manufacturer brings patterns, fabrics, production and quality control.
Private label vs. OEM vs. ODM
- Private label: you choose from the manufacturer's existing styles and add your branding, labels and packaging.
- OEM: you supply a full tech pack and the factory produces exactly to your design.
- ODM: the factory develops a new design for you from a brief or reference.
What to prepare
- Your logo files and brand colours.
- A short product range — many brands start with 3–6 hero styles such as stringers, tank tops, joggers and hoodies.
- Label and packaging requirements: neck labels, care labels, swing tags, polybags.
- Target quantities per style and colour.
Sampling is worth it
Order samples before bulk production. Check fit on real customers, test the fabric after washing and photograph samples for your pre-launch marketing.
Common first-order mistakes
- Too many styles and colours, spreading the budget thin.
- Skipping a size set, then discovering fit issues in bulk.
- Forgetting import duties when calculating landed cost.
